The Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine Long for Union

The first time I encountered the concept of the Divine Masculine and Feminine was through a man selling stones in India.

I was walking along the shores of the sacred Ganges River—often revered as “Ganga Ma” or “Mother Ganga”—when a man with a profound yet calming presence approached me. His energy was centered, peaceful, and grounded. In his hand, he held a beautiful stone known as a Shiva Lingam, naturally formed by the river over time. The stone was smooth and polished by the water, but it featured a striking maroon stripe running across its surface, almost as if painted by the hand of the divine. With reverence, he explained that this strip symbolized the Divine Masculine, while the stone itself, whole and encompassing, represented the Divine Feminine—the cosmic egg of creation.

He elaborated on the symbolism: the Masculine, represented by the stripe, is the witness, the observer of the totality of the rock’s form, while the rock itself, the substance of the universe, embodies the Feminine. The Masculine is the conscious observer, the force that stands apart and observes the larger picture, while the Feminine is the universe itself, the substance that creates, nurtures, and sustains all life. The Masculine sees the world; the Feminine is the world. These two energies are not separate but are two halves of a whole, and they exist within every one of us, regardless of biological sex or gender. The Masculine is like God, the eternal witness, while the Feminine is God in Her essence—the divine force of creation. Both energies are required to be whole, and one cannot exist fully without the other.

Without the Masculine, the Feminine is the pure substance of God, but She lacks self-awareness—She is, but She does not know She is. The Masculine provides the awareness, the consciousness to bring the Feminine into being. Without the Feminine, the Masculine is lost in an existential void, like a traveler searching for meaning in a space, without the beauty or purpose that the Feminine provides. The Masculine has direction but lacks the soul of a deeper purpose.

But when the Feminine is seen by the Masculine, something profound happens. She feels the gaze upon Her, and through His loving and attuned presence, She knows She is seen, acknowledged, and loved. It is as if, for the first time, She comes into full awareness of Her existence and Her value. It's a recognition that resonates deep within, like sensing someone’s gaze from across a room—She feels that presence, and suddenly, She is no longer isolated or alone. When observed through the lens of true, unconditional Masculine love, She realizes Her inherent Beauty—Her divine nature. She is both the substance and the miracle of creation, an embodiment of God’s vision. The Masculine's gaze does not merely skim the surface; it penetrates deep within Her, reaching Her core, Her essence. Every moment He witnesses Her expands Her, awakening Her to the Holy Union that has always existed between them. This union, always present, has until now remained unseen, and unnoticed, but now it is felt, experienced, and embraced.

At the same time, the Masculine, witnessing the Feminine, comes to see the perfection of God reflected in Her beauty and vulnerability. As He looks deeper, He encounters Her truth, Her rawness, Her tenderness, and it shatters His heart, opening it wider and wider with each passing moment. His heart breaks open not out of sorrow, but out of awe, reverence, and love for the divine perfection He sees before Him. It’s the same feeling one experiences while gazing up at a starry sky, overwhelmed by the vastness and mystery of the universe. The Masculine, through His love for Her, comes to understand Love itself—by seeing Love in its purest, most vulnerable form. Through that understanding, His direction becomes clear, His purpose unfolds, and He is no longer lost, for in witnessing Her, He discovers the meaning of His existence.

In the spiritual seeker, the dynamic interplay of these energies becomes a conscious experience every day. In the pursuit of God, we simultaneously engage with our Masculine energy as the observer, while also embodying our Feminine essence, feeling ourselves as the Divine substance. This dual awareness allows us to recognize and realize that we are not separate from God, but are made of God’s very essence, radiating as a reflection of the Whole. We become both the witness (Masculine) and the material of the universe (Feminine), understanding that our existence is a living manifestation of the divine.

In Vipassana meditation, the goal is to cultivate a deep, continuous awareness through the sensations felt in the body. From a Masculine/Feminine perspective, the practice involves directing the witness—our Masculine energy—towards the body’s sensations, the Feminine. The Masculine serves as the observer, the witness, focusing attention without attachment, while the Feminine is the substance—the body, with all its sensations, emotions, and experiences. Together, they form a complete cycle, with the Masculine guiding the Feminine back to awareness, presence, and stillness. This interaction between the two energies fosters a deeper connection to the present moment, an embodied awareness of the self as both witness and substance, as both observer and experience.

This energetic dynamic also manifests in relationships between two people who are consciously aware of the opportunity to see and seek God in each other. When you look into another person’s soul and recognize the divine presence within them, you are tapping into the Masculine energy of witness. By seeing and acknowledging the God within them, you create the space for that Divine presence to unfold and be felt by them. This witnessing act opens them up to their Divine essence—the Feminine within them—allowing their spiritual self to emerge and resonate. It is through the loving, focused gaze of the Masculine that the Feminine is allowed to fully express, just as in the witnessing of the Feminine, the Masculine is drawn into deeper self-awareness.

Holding this sacred spiritual gaze—remaining in full awareness of their highest potential and Divinity—is the cornerstone of a true Soul-to-Soul connection. This relationship transcends mere human interaction and enters the realm of the Divine. When two souls come together in this way, seeing only God in one another, the relationship becomes a living testament to the union of the Masculine and Feminine, where both energies nourish and empower each other. This dynamic creates a deep, spiritual bond, where love is not just felt but known, not just experienced but embodied. It is a relationship rooted in the recognition of the Divine within, and it is in this recognition that the souls of both individuals are transformed.
